When you work in Excel, it’s often helpful to rotate text in a vertical direction. By doing so, you can minimize column width while still displaying the text that you need. Fortunately, Excel offers a very quick and easy way to do exactly this. Let’s learn how to rotate text up in Microsoft Excel.

How to Rotate Text Up in Excel

Rotating text up in Excel is a fast, easy text edit that you can apply within any cell. It essentially takes horizontal text, numbers, or characters and flips them counterclockwise. The first character sits at the bottom of a cell, and all other characters are stacked on top.

Rotating text up helps you fit more text into a column. Rather than having a long string of characters take up horizontal space, you can instead stack them vertically. This is especially useful when you’re writing column headers, for example.

To rotate text up in Excel, you’ll first need to click into a cell. The cell can either contain text, or be a space where you want to type into. The new formatting rules will be applied to new or existing text.
