How to Create Cell Styles in Excel
Creating your own Excel Cell Styles is a wonderful way to customize how your data is presented. The default options are excellent, but sometimes you’ll need to be more unique. Building your own Cell Style is the perfect way to do exactly that.
To create your own styles, begin by clicking into the cell that you want to edit. Then, find the Home tab on Excel’s ribbon and click to open it up. Here, you’ll see a variety of options available to you. The option you want lies on the Cell Styles dropdown. Click on it.
Here, you’ll see the gallery of Excel’s default Cell Styles. To create your own, click on New Cell Style. Excel will open the New Cell Style menu. At the top, you can give your style a name. Then, click on the Format button.
The Format Cells menu launches. Here, you can make a variety of edits to build your own custom styles. For example, you can select a new font. Plus, you can change the colors, shading, fills, and borders that display in your cell. These options live on the tabs across the top of the Format Cells menu.
When you’re finished, click OK, then OK again on the New Cell Style menu. Now, when you open the Cell Styles dropdown, your custom Cell Style will be visible in the Custom gallery at the top. Click on its thumbnail to apply it to a cell.
