When you work in spreadsheets, chances are you’ll find yourself working with very large numbers. It’s often useful to separate these numbers into sections with commas, making them easier to read. How to Use Comma Style in Excel
Imagine a number like 550887394. At a glance, it’s rather difficult to tell exactly what its value is. But when it’s written as 550,887,394, your task becomes far easier. This is true with any large number, and the value of comma separators only increases alongside the number of digits.
Fortunately, Excel makes it easy to display numbers with comma separators. Even better: you can convert existing data without having to retype it!
This format is called Comma Style in Excel, and it’s incredibly easy to apply. To get started, click into any cell containing a number. Here, we’ll use cell B3.
Then, make sure that you’re working on Excel’s Home tab. You’ll find this on the ribbon, the list of menus and buttons across the top of your screen.
Near the middle, in the Style section, click on the Comma Style button. Excel will reformat your data, adding commas.
You’ll notice that two decimals are added at the end as well. To remove these, click Decrease Decimal on the Home tab.
You can also add Comma Style to multiple numbers at once. To do so, simply click and drag to select multiple cells, then click on Comma Style. Excel will apply the style to all of the cells that you have selected.
