How to Add a Background in Excel

Backgrounds in Excel are a quick and easy way to enhance the style of any spreadsheet. By adding a photo, you can instantly create eye-catching spreadsheets that readers will appreciate.

To begin adding a background in Excel, go to the Page Layout tab. You’ll find this on Excel’s ribbon at the top of your screen. Clicking on Page Layout, you’ll see an array of options displayed. The one you need is near the middle, and it’s labeled Background. Click on it.

Excel will launch a Browse window, from which you can navigate to an image file that you have stored on your computer. Find the image of your choice, click on it, and then choose Insert.

Excel will import the photo and place it as the background of your spreadsheet. Any content that you have inside cells will sit above the background image.
