How to Angle Counterclockwise in Excel

Angling text counterclockwise is quick and easy. But you might be wondering why it’s useful. A prime example is in the case of column headers. If you’re displaying several columns on a printed page – or onscreen – you can display more by having the headers appear narrower. Angling them counterclockwise does exactly that. Counterclockwise text means that words angle upward from left to right.

To angle text counterclockwise in Microsoft Excel, begin by clicking on one or more cells that contain text. Then, you’ll need to open up Excel’s Home tab. The Home tab is found on the ribbon. If you don’t know, the ribbon is the series of menus and options across the top of your screen. You’ll see labels for Home, Insert, Draw, Page Layout, and more.

Click on Home, then find the Alignment group just left of center. You’ll see a dropdown menu labeled Orientation when you hover over it. Click Orientation, and you’ll see an array of options displayed on the menu.
