When you’re working in a spreadsheet, you may find yourself wanting to add pictures. These bring visual interest and make your sheets more attractive. Fortunately, it’s easy to work with photos in Excel. Let’s learn how to add pictures in Microsoft Excel.
How to Add Pictures in Excel
Images are often described as being worth a thousand words, and this extends to their use in spreadsheets as well. They help illustrate key ideas within your data.
To add pictures in Excel, begin by going to the Insert tab. You’ll find that on Excel’s ribbon. You’ll see an array of options for content to add to your sheets. The option you’ll need here is the Pictures dropdown. Go ahead and click on it to open it up.
You’ll see the dropdown menu appear, with four options listed: Photo Browser, Picture from File, Stock Images, and Online Pictures. Photo Browser opens built-in photo apps like Apple Photos. Stock Images links to Microsoft’s stock image gallery, and Online Pictures lets you pull images from the internet via the Bing search engine.
The most common option is Picture from File. This lets you import an image file saved on your computer. Go ahead and click on it. Excel will open a file browser, where you can explore the folders on your computer.
Browse to an image file, click on it, and then choose Insert.
Excel will import the photo, placing it onto your sheet. Now, you can click and drag on the corners to resize the image. You can also move it around your sheet, and apply custom effects on the Picture Format tab, also found on Excel’s ribbon.
As you can see, it’s easy to add pictures in Microsoft Excel. These make any spreadsheet more interesting and engaging, with only a few clicks.
