Ever wanted to add impressive visuals to make your spreadsheets more interesting? 3D models are a great way to do exactly that. Fortunately, they’re easy to build in Excel, and you don’t need any design experience. Let’s learn how to add 3D models in Microsoft Excel.
How to Add 3D Models in Excel
3D models can take many forms. But they share an impressive aesthetic. 3D models are animated, moving illustrations that sit right inside your spreadsheets. If you have experience making your own models, you can add them, but the easiest way is to use Excel’s built-in 3D model gallery.
To add a 3D model in Excel, begin by going to the Insert tab. You’ll find this up on the ribbon. Then, click on the 3D Model dropdown menu. You’ll see two options: you can choose to insert a 3D model from your device, or from the Stock 3D Models gallery.
As mentioned, choose the first option if you have a 3D model file already saved on your computer. In this example, click on Stock 3D Models.
Excel will open the Online 3D Models sidebar. Here, you can search for specific designs by typing in the box. Or, you can click on the category thumbnails and browse the designs inside.
For example, click on the Animated Animals thumbnail. Inside, you’ll see fish, dogs, bees, and more. To insert a 3D model to your spreadsheet, click once on the model design’s thumbnail. Then, in the lower right corner, click Insert.
Excel will process and insert the 3D model, and you’ll see it moving on your spreadsheet. From here, you can click and drag the axis control in the center of the model to change its orientation and position. Also, the corners can be dragged to resize the model.
As you can see, 3D models are a fun and easy way to make your Excel spreadsheets more interesting.
